Brief 2- Process

My Idea

My idea for this brief is to find a range of random objects for example old cameras, using an black or white backdrop, I want to place the objects into a series of different compositions in order to vary my ideas and objects. For these shoots I am going to use harsh artificial lighting in order to create sharp shadows and harsh points of light on the objects. This makes that part of the object the main focus of the image.

Shoot One

Slide1

For this shoot, I have used the objects of an old fashioned camera and really thick rope. I have used a black background and harsh lighting in order to light up the centre of the image more. I messed around with the exposure of some of the images and this either made them come out to bright and white or to dark that nothing was in focus but a shadow or silhouette of the objects. The best images out of this shoot were the ones that have been properly lit up using the harsh light to focus on one part of the image mainly the centre.

Shoot Two

Slide2For shoot two I have changed my objects, this time I have gone with an old kettle and some leaves and flowers coming out the end, I kept with the landscape format with a harsh lighting. in this shoot I really like the shadow that is cast on the background in some of the images where as some of them are to dark and the shadow is lost in the black background. Personally I do not like this shoot as it is slightly boring and the images did not come out how I wanted them to.

Shoot Three

For shoot three, I changed the backdrop to white in order to see how this changes the images, with the white background the shadow of the objects is a lot more defined and noticeable compared to the black background. Personally I really like the shadow in the background as it gives more to the image. I think that this shoot went really successfully as I love the detail of the jug, it adds something more into the image. The composition of the camera placed on top of the jug at and angle sinking into the flowers is really effective.

Shoot Four

Sticking with the old camera theme, for this shoot I have added in a purse and coins, personally I do not think that this is the strongest shoot of them all. I feel like the objects do not stand out and kind of fade into the background.

Shoot Five

For this final shoot I stuck with the black background and the harsh lighting. I have selected a range of different objects for this shoot trying different compositions. Personally I like this shoot however I prefer images from previous shoots. The pink scalf gives a bit more colour into the image however I think that this takes away from the image of a classy old fashioned look and makes it look out of place compared to the other objects in the image.

Evaluation Of Brief And Shoots

As a whole the images that I chose to edit are the most successful ones out of the shoots that I have done for this brief, they have come out as well as I hoped them to. the composition of each of the images is slighting different for example some of the images are centre of the frame where as others the objects have been pushed to one side. I knew what I wanted to create at the beginning of the brief which meant it was easier to narrow down the images to my most favourite ones. I have tried and tested a range of different objects, backgrounds and compositions, this has allowed me to vary my idea in order to get the best images possible. In the editing Process I have added more clarity to the images and adjusted the levels. as some of the backgrounds were creased I have used the black paint brush in order to give some of the images a more smooth backing.
