This project requires you to respond to the notion of home. As many of you have relocated from what you will have considered your home in the last twelve months you find yourselves in an excellent position to reflect upon this task. Relocation, disruption, comfort and safety – memory, place and time, the idea of home is central to our existence, culturally.
Home is a conception, rather than a quantifiable thing, home is generally considered in human geographical terms but this project affords you the opportunity to consider the meaning of home in its broadest possible readings and contexts. This could mean any number of things, localised and spatial, perhaps dealing with broader related themes of family and community or even more global in its concerns, or something else entirely.
This project presents you with the opportunity to create your own series of images based on your subjective reading of the word ‘home’.
Please try and think beyond the most simplistic or literal readings of the brief, for instance straight documents of your bedroom or
parent’s house, use your visual journal as a chance to argue your point and contextualise your thoughts and images. It is recommended that you produce a sequence of at least six images. You are free to utilise any style of photography you wish to employ to best present your idea. As this project requires you to set your own outcomes it is especially important that you use your online visual journals to their full to show
your research. It may be prudent to enter an ongoing dialogue with your tutor and colleagues to negotiate the project themes and outcomes
